2010 Event Details

2010 Event Details

The 2010 event will consist of:

26.2 mile Athletics NI calibrated marathon course using undulating road and flat tow path.

13.1 mile half marathon using undulating road and flat tow path

3 mile(approximate) town based fun run.

The Start

The Full Marathon will start outside the Newry Sports Centre at 9:00am on 31st May 2010.

The half marathon will start outside the Newry Sports Centre at 9:30am on 31st May 2010.

The fun run will start at 9:45am in the city centre

 

ALL WALKERS for both the Half Marathon & Full Marathon will start at 8:00am outside the Newry Sports Centre

Participants must start at the allocated time for their event. Time recording will start at 8:00am and continue until 6:00pm on 31st May 2010. Traffic restrictions will be in place to allow safe passage of participants through the city and on the main Poyntzpass Road. These restrictions will commence at 8:00am and cease at 2:00pm on the main Poyntzpass Road allowing walkers 6 hours to reach the half way mark. Anyone not reaching this stage within the time permitted will be asked to retire from the event. For the return journey through the city restrictions will remain in place until 3:00pm. Anyone not reaching this stage within the time should obey the rules of the highway code and will be regarded as a pedestrian.

 

Race Registration

Race registration will take place in a location to be finalised in Newry City Centre

Participants

Participants for the Half & Full Marathon must be age 18 or over on the day of the race. If any participant is unwell prior to the event he/she is advised not to take part. Everyone must arrive at least 45 mins before the start of their event, this will enable them to familiarise themselves with toilets, refreshments and the start and finish areas. The organisers cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage of your property. Entry fees are not refundable.

Changing Facilities

There will be showering/changing facilities available at Newry Sports Centre.


 

 

Running Number

All participants will receive individual running numbers.

The running number is specifically allocated and cannot be  exchanged without authorisation from the race director.

Numbers must be attached to the front of running tops, mutilation or non-display of numbers will lead to disqualification.

ChampionChip

Champion chips will be given out at registration and will be allocated only to one entrant.Chips cannot be exchanged with another participant as this will affect recorded times. The chip is the property of Timing Ireland. Lost chips are charged to Newry City Marathon Ltd at a cost of £5 per chip.

 

The Marathon Course

 

Starting outside the Sports Centre at 9:00am the marathon will take the following route ;

 

Patrick Street. Right onto Monaghan Street.  Left onto Merchants Quay. Canal Quay. Join Tow path at WIN Industrial Estate. Leave Tow Path at Sheperds Way. Join Poyntzpass Road. Through Jerrettspass, Poyntzpass. Leave main road at Terryhoogan Road. Reach Halfway mark and rejoin Tow Path. Stay on Tow Path and return to Newry at WIN Business Park. Canal Quay. Merchants Quay and finish at a location to be finalised in Newry City Centre

Starting outside the Sports Centre at 9:30am the half marathon will take the following route ;

 

Patrick Street. Left into Francis Street. Left onto Merchants Quay. Left again onto Monaghan Street. Left again & past the Sports Centre. Left into Francis Street. Left onto Merchants Quay, Canal Quay. Join Tow path at WIN Industrial Estate. Leave Tow Path at Sheperds Way. Join Poyntzpass Road. At Jerrettspass turn right onto Carrickovaddy Road. Left onto Glenn Road, Right again and then rejoin Tow Path. Stay on Tow Path and return to Newry at WIN Business Park. Canal Quay. Merchants Quay and finish at a location to be finalised in Newry City Centre

Mile Markers

Both the half and full marathon will be individually mile marked.

Refreshment Stations

The first water station will be situated at Shepherd’s Way and there will be water stations approximately every 3 miles on the Marathon and Half routes. There will be sports drink stations at approximately 8 miles and 18 miles. The latter station will service both the half and full Marathon participants. There will also be an energy gel station
